First tickets for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games exclusively for Japan

The organization of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games opened the first phase of ticket sales, which will be conducted by drawing lots and will be open exclusively to Japanese citizens and residents.

The initial ticket sales phase was inaugurated on May 9 with the start of the draw entries through a web portal enabled by the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games organization, a process that will last until May 28.

The order in which applications are received will not affect the chances of winning the draw. The organizers, therefore, urged participants to carefully review the calendar of events and sports events before making a decision.

To be eligible to participate in the draw, interested parties must first obtain a user (ID) on the official Tokyo 2020 page, requested until Wednesday by nearly three million people, according to figures collected by local media such as NHK and Asahi.

The results of the draw will be published on June 20 and the winners will acquire the right to purchase tickets, which must be paid before July 2, just over a year before the Olympic Games, which will take place between July 24 and August 9, 2020.

Tickets include the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, as well as events in all 33 Olympic sports, except boxing, whose tournament is temporarily paralysed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), while an investigation to the International Boxing Association (AIBA) is ongoing.

Ticket prices range from 2,500 yen (23 dollars) for competitions such as football; 130,000 yen (1,200 dollars) for a sports show; or 300,000 yen (2,700 dollars) for the opening ceremony, the most expensive event of the Olympic Games.

Ticket sales outside Japan will be available from June 15 through authorized dealers in each country by Tokyo 2020 and the National Olympic Committees.
If you are thinking of attending this great sporting event, do not forget to apply for a visa to enter Japan.

In addition, in Autumn, another phase of ticket sales for residents of Japan will open, where they will be available in order of arrival.

Interested parties around the world can also purchase them on the organization’s website from Spring 2020. Tickets will also be available for purchase at official counters in Tokyo and at official resale shops.

Tickets for the Paralympic Games, which will take place from August 25 to September 6 of next year, will be on sale this summer.
