The cherry blossom era officially begins in Nagasaki

The local weather observatory in the southwestern Japanese, city of Nagasaki, announced that the somei-yoshino cherry tree has already bloomed. That means the cherry blossom era officially begins in Nagasaki!

The Japan Meteorological Agency said it is the first cherry of this variety to bloom in Japan this spring.

For the first time in 41 years, Nagasaki is the place where the cherry trees bloom earlier. The last time was in 1978.

The Nagasaki observatory said that this spring cherry trees bloomed four days earlier than usual in other years, and three days earlier than in 2018.
